CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNING INTERNS

Five interns were picked from among 80+ students who applied to our 2012 paid summer internship program. They were each assigned to a Canadian think tank or advocacy organization, where they will spend the summer working with leading policy experts. Keep an eye out for these future leaders!

AARON GUNN
Organization: Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF)
Studies: University of Victoria (Business)
Extra-curricular: Video production, hockey, and army reserves

“We must not be afraid to stand up for our principles and win others over to our cause through the democratic process. This is not to say we should not be pragmatic and realistic – simply that we must not be willing to win an election at any cost.”

ALANNA NEWMAN
Organization: Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (AIMS)
Studies: University of Toronto, Trinity College (International Relations and Political Science)
Extra-curricular: Photography, competitive swimming, and model UN

“Many Canadians don’t think that the debt load is a serious problem. For example, people are outraged about plans to increase the retirement age to 67. However, every dollar spent that we do not have represents money that must be paid back in the future – with interest!”

LAUREN KLAMMER
Organization: Institute for Marriage and Family Canada (IMFC)
Studies: Queen’s University (Public Administration)
Extra-curricular: Running, hiking, and reading

“In recent years, governments have responded to the weakening of the family unit by themselves trying to take up the role once played by families. Instead, governments should focus on policies that strengthen families, giving them greater flexibility to make the choices that best suit their unique needs.”

JUSTIN BUMSTEAD
Organization: Frontier Centre for Public Policy (FCPP)
Studies: University of Calgary (Geographic Information Systems)
Extra-curricular: Hockey and baseball

“The conservative movement should not be afraid to think big and challenge existing orthodoxy. David Cameron’s Big Society was panned by critics as utopian and impractical, but it represents a step towards a radical restructuring of the relationship between Britons and their government.”

MARC-OLIVIER FORTIN
Organization: Montreal Economic Institute (MEI)
Studies: McGill (Economics)
Extra-curricular: Co-Founder of Prince Arthur Herald campus paper

“I’m a firm believer in a flat tax. It would give people an incentive to work harder, as well as discouraging tax evasion. In addition, businesses would spend less time dealing with tax issues, and instead focus on innovation and expansion.”
